A Wolf Knows

Howling in a chorus of song
from on top of Indian Mound
Ma’iingan scans the cities below
as a single tear appears
a cool mist spreads
it’s wings across the valley
his broken heart bleeds
while his relatives fall.

Indian Mound Park overlooking the Twin Cities.

A Wolf Knows

Through a trail of red eyes
she is
in all her fullness
bold, round, and beautiful.

A symbol of life
beyond this maze
of cement slabs
where time exceeds
the ticking clock.

The Wolves know
what we have forgot
along the way.
