Bones of Flight

Against a wall of obstacle
his response is ingrained
framed in patterns made
to survive as life changed,

a boy grew to a man
locked in dishonest refrains
of short lived scenes, repeating
patterns with women and work.

Then one day, he paused
in mid step and fell hard
for unfamiliar arms
the eyes of his angel in disguise.

He began to change,
fighting his demons of youth
tearing the old ways down
to leave room for the new.

A man deeply in love
grew and grew
through everyday struggles
he changed his patterns
chaining his ingrained
bone response for flight.
